Red Sun Magazine is thrilled to announce our latest addition to the staff, Louise Mary Legier-McGinnis. Louise is a U.S. Navy veteran enrolled in the Seton Hill MFA for Writing Popular Fiction. She will be helping out Red Sun as an Assistant Editor for now, but has her sights set on the Fantasy Editor position.
Born in Clinton, Iowa, then being raised in New Orleans, Louise entered the U.S. Navy right out of high school. During her six years of active duty, Petty Officer Second Class McGinnis found herself stationed in Italy, and near the end of her naval career, Norfolk, Virginia. While serving in La Maddalena, Italy she traveled to Greece, Spain, and Haifa. She also met her husband, Christopher McGinnis, who is still active Navy. In 2005, after an Honorable Discharge, and the birth of her first son, she obtained her realtor’s license to help offset the bill of a growing family. In 2010, she took a break from her day job to pursue her BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from Virginia Wesleyan College.
In 2016, the birth of her second son came hand-in-hand with a burning desire to learn more about writing. Thus, Louise is currently attending classes at Seton Hill University with the intention of graduating with her MFA in Writing Popular Fiction in January 2020 with her thesis novel being of the urban fantasy genre.
We couldn’t be more proud to have Louise on the Red Sun team (that makes three veterans so far), and we’re excited to see her story picks when the Red Giant reopens to submissions.
