Welcome to issue #4 of Red Sun Magazine.
We have another outstanding line up of stories, articles, reviews, and interviews for you this go.
Our interview this issue is with none other than veteran Horror author, Nancy Kilpatrick. Nancy shared with us some valuable insight into the (rather dismal and disappointing) present day craft and business of writing, and although it’s just one author’s opinion, she’s been writing, editing, and publishing for longer than many sf/f/h contemporaries have been alive, so it might not be a bad idea to read what she has to say.
The Red Giant opened to submissions for one month and received 276 submissions in that time. Each story that we’ve selected for publication has passed our rigorous anonymous judging, earning approval from at least two of my editors before reaching my level and final approval.
Of course, not every story that made it past my editors made the final cut. Some didn’t hold my interest the way they did with my editors. Some drew me in, only to fall apart at the end. Some, I wrote their respective authors personal rejections, since I felt they deserved it for almost making the cut.
But for the stories that did make the cut, I’m proud to say, we didn’t know anything about the authors. What they looked like, where they came from, whether they were men or women, etc.
All we had in front of us were their stories.
In other words, the stories won on merit, and for that, they deserve a hearty congratulations! We’re not the only magazine that judges anonymously. To them, I salute. I hope you enjoy #4 and will agree that we put together another scorcher of an issue.
